Principal’s Pick is a school-wide book program in which every classroom will receive a book from the principal each six weeks. The chosen book will be introduced to staff and students by the principal. Each book is carefully selected to have an impact on the entire student body and is chosen to reinforce a theme. The message will be one that will touch the reader and build on an aspect that supports the school’s goals and philosophy. This year, we will focus on the theme of building character as we use the books to help build a positive school culture and promote our six pillars of character. Books have many of the answers to some of our more complex issues and literacy brings human feelings into the classroom to empower us to change our actions, opinions, and priorities. Teachers will spend time during the six weeks revisiting the book not only for its content, but to reinforce our character traits theme. The most important reason for Principal’s Pick is to share exceptional books with students and enjoy them. Books can bring warmth into the curriculum and nurture the soul of the child. Students learn to love reading when we love reading great books together!
